60 Minutes Australia’s recent story Boomers Go Bust told of the increasing frustration within the Baby Boomer generation that their retirement savings have shrunk dramatically because of the Global Financial Crisis.  Charles Woolley spoke with individuals who had given up on ever achieving the dreams they had for their retirement years.

What the story didn’t talk about was how so many ordinary Australian Baby Boomers have taken charge of their own destiny and learnt new skills to enable them to generate income to supplement their retirement funds.  FREEDOM Retirement Action Program leads people through a process of planning the lifestyle that will suit their wants, needs and interests, then gives them the opportunity to learn about how to create profitable, portable businesses to bring in cash flow, using their skills and experience and often based on their interests and passions.

If having a purpose is the thing that keeps people healthy and happy, then developing purposeful profitable interests to support your lifestyle must be applauded.

Maybe 60 minutes could run a good news story on Baby Boomers who have successfully  reinvented themselves in retirement.
